What is Hollow Block?

Today, hollow blocks are being increasingly used for flooring as the reinforced concrete buildings have become widespread and sound and thermal insulation gained importance. Hollow blocks are made of baked clay or lightweight aggregate. Here, we focus on the hollow blocks made of baked clay.

As the hollow blocks are considered as a kind of filler, they are regarded only as dead load in calculations. Hollow blocks are put side by side, and required reinforcement material is placed into the bottom reinforcement channels with a cement-rich mortar. This creates beams carrying itself. Recently, there are new flooring materials made of baked clay with different profiles.
